Students will understand how to interpret and analyze movie scenes. Students will also understand how to bring literature to life by incorporating facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, tone, and body language when presenting. Common Core Standards Reading: Literature Key Ideas and Details: RL.9-10.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. RL.9-10.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text. Speaking & Listening SL.9-10.4 Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and task. SL.9-10.6 Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. Writing W.9-10.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. Movie Scene Selection: 100 Points Performance: 100 Points Memorization: 100 Points Literature Analysis: 100 Points Directions: Research movies and television shows. Select a 3 - 5 minute movie scene. You may use musicals and silent films as well. Practice the script with a partner or a group. The script should be memorized. The script can be changed to fit the needs of the students. Present your scene to the class. You may record your movie in advance. No profanity or inappropriate topics. Literature Analysis 1. Describe the characters? Give background information about the characters. 2. What is the title of the movie or television show? 3. When was the movie or television show published? 4. Describe the setting. 5. Who is the intended audience of the movie or television show? 6. What is the mood of the movie or television show? 7. What is the purpose/objective of the movie or television show? Is it to inform, entertain, or persuade? 8. What is the theme of the movie or television show? 9. Why did you select this movie or television show? 10. Would you recommend this selection?
