Students will research, interpret, and analyze monologues. Students will understand how to bring monologues to life. Students will incorporate facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, tone, and body language when presenting. Common Core Standards Reading: Literature Key Ideas and Details: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Research a published monologue and prepare a 45 second presentation. A monologue is a speech given by a single character in a story. You may select a monologue from a book, a play, a movie, or a television show. You may perform your monologue live or create a video. Provide a copy of your monologue with your analysis. Write the questions or use complete sentences. Literature Analysis 1. Discuss the character. 2. What is the title of the monologue? 3. When was the monologue published? 4. Summarize the monologue. 5. Who is the intended audience of the monologue? 6. What is the mood of the monologue? 7. What is the purpose or objective of the monologue? Is it to inform, entertain, or persuade? 8. What is the theme of the monologue? 9. Why did you select this monologue? 10. Would you recommend this selection? Rubric: 200 Points Analysis: 100 Points Presentation: 100 Points Total Character Interpretation: 80 Time: 20 (At least 30 Seconds)
